Gran Canaria: my first trip abroad since COVID
After what felt like an eternity of lockdowns and travel restrictions, I finally took my first international trip since the COVID-19 pandemic began. And where better to shake off the travel rust than the vibrant island of Gran Canaria?
From the moment I stepped off the plane and felt the warm Spanish sun on my face, I knew this trip was going to be special. The island itself is a stunning blend of volcanic landscapes, lush green valleys, and pristine beaches.
Here are some of the highlights of my trip:
- Exploring the Dunes of Maspalomas: Walking through the vast expanse of golden sand dunes was like stepping onto another planet. The contrast between the stark desert landscape and the turquoise ocean was simply breathtaking.
- Hiking in the mountains: Gran Canaria offers incredible hiking opportunities. I tackled the challenging but rewarding climb to Roque Nublo, a massive rock formation with stunning panoramic views.
- Relaxing on the beaches: After a day of exploring, I spent many afternoons soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches of Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. The water was crystal clear, and the sand was soft and inviting.
- Discovering charming towns: I wandered through the charming streets of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island's capital. I enjoyed delicious tapas, visited the vibrant markets, and admired the beautiful architecture.
- Indulging in local cuisine: Gran Canaria boasts a diverse culinary scene. I savored fresh seafood, traditional Canarian dishes like papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), and of course, plenty of delicious tapas.
This trip to Gran Canaria was more than just a vacation; it was a reminder of the joy of travel and the beauty of the world around us. It was a chance to reconnect with myself and rediscover the magic of exploring new places.
